Once treatment is complete, remove and disassemble the mouthpiece/mask and chamber and wash in warm soapy water. Rinse with clean water and leave to air-dry. Never dry on a direct heat source. The tubing should not be washed.
The nebuliser is disassembled into 3 separate parts including the baffle, a small component which fits inside the bottom of the nebuliser chamber and is easily lost. If baffle is not in place, the nebuliser will not produce an aerosol.
The compressor should be unplugged, wiped with a damp cloth and stored in its carry case.
Tubing, chamber and mask/mouthpieces should be replaced every 3 to 4 months.
Filters should be replaced every 3 months and the compressor will be serviced annually.
Patients should be given clear instructions for their local servicing and what to do if the nebuliser breaks down.
