Administration of Medicine
When using a face mask: secure this to the person's face, covering their nose and mouth, and secure with the elastic string over their head to form a seal and prevent nebulised medication from coming into contact with the eyes. If a mouthpiece is being used, the patient should put their lips around it to form a seal.
Switch on the nebuliser and get the person to breathe normally. Ideally the person should sit up straight on a chair or in bed.
If the person starts coughing or needs to spit up phlegm during the treatment, switch the nebuliser off to avoid wasting any medication. Tapping the chamber from time to time will ensure most of the medication is used.
Delivery of medication will take 10 to 15 mins.
