Slide 1:
There are 368,000 patients with asthma. 1 in 14 people in Scotland. This means around 72,000 children and 296,000 adults have asthma in Scotland.
Slide 2:
- In 2016 the ISD reported that asthma deaths increased to 133 (41 men and 92 women). This is higher than in previous years.
Slide 3:
- Two thirds of asthma deaths are preventable by following researched guidelines for treatment, monitoring, patient education, and a Personalised Asthma Action Plan (PAAP) that empowers the patient to safely self manage their asthma.
Slide 4:
- It is estimated that 7 out of 10 people with asthma are not receiving care to meet the minimal clinical standards (Asthma UK report).
Slide 5:
- Around 5% of people with asthma will have persistent symptoms and difficult to control asthma.
