Eyes
The person may open and close their eyes or they may remain closed as the near death.
What can you do?
- The person may not be able to respond but may still hear a familiar voice or feel the touch of a loved one so talking to the person and holding their hand may be a comfort to both the dying person and the relative or carer.
- If the eyes are dry, artificial tears can be prescribed to moisten the eyes and make them more comfortable. Care when cleaning around the person’s eyes to remove any deposits.
- Remember to give the person their spectacles during periods when the person is awake so they can see visitors and staff.
