PR Exercise Classes


  • Warm up - gentle exercises to get muscles and joints ready for main exercise component.
  • Anxiety can affect concentration and confidence. Some people may require additional prompts and support.
  • Main exercise component:
    • Aerobic - endurance - Aim to build fitness e.g. walking and cycling. With a focus on pacing and breathing control throughout.
    • Strength – Lower limb and upper limb strengthening exercises with or without weights.
  • Cool down and stretches - Allows respiratory rate and heart rate to return to normal levels.
  • Relaxation - may be offered at some PR programmes.

Practical Tip:

People may be anxious about exercising with a chronic lung disease. PR exercise programmes are individualised to allow each person to exercise at a level they can manage.
