Self-directed support

Self-directed support offers a choice of four ways to get the support the person needs.

  1. Direct payment – the local council pays money directly to the person to arrange their own support by employing staff or buying services from one or more organisations.
  2. Directing the available support – the council or organisation of their choice holds the budget but the person is in charge of how it is spent.
  3. Local authority arranges support –the person asks the council to choose and arrange the support needed.
  4. Mix and match – this allows the person to have a combination of the above to suit their needs.
